traits- we’ve been trying for a pkg that works with lots of trait sources with https://github.com/ropensci/traits - BIEN package https://cran.rstudio.com/web/packages/BIEN/index.html - p.s. we’re working on an API for this database, so hopefully improvements on it as well

floras- https://github.com/ropensci/floras - scraping Flora of North America - though is very neglected -
TR8- https://cran.rstudio.com/web/packages/TR8/index.html for a variety of trait databases - i maintain an API for USDA plants database at https://plantsdb.xyz/heartbeat/ - https://github.com/sckott/usdaplantsapi - USDA said they’d make an API for years and gave up waiting on them - it’s of course a static snapshot of the database probably a year old or so
- i think BIEN has some of the TRY database, but not sure
