Outreach Scientist
The Code Ocean team is on a mission to make research code and data easily shareable, reusable, reproducible, and preserved. We are building a cloud-based, open access, interoperable platform that enables researchers to publish their code to advance the reproducibility of their research.
Job responsibilities:
Develop and maintain relationships with scientists.
- Network with scientists at conferences, labs, and meetings to understand and address their reproducibility and research needs.
- Showcase how to use Code Ocean as part of the broader toolset in the area of reproducibility.
- Help define roles and profiles of locations, institutions, universities to plan and reproducibility outreach opportunities.
Act as a reproducibility liaison for computationally intensive research disciplines.
- Discuss computational reproducibility at events, community calls, sprints, and take lead on reproducibility conversations in the research community. Frame reproducibility conversations to resonate with diverse audiences.
- Travel to universities and research organizations, both in the US and internationally, to further Code Ocean’s visibility and mission.
Disseminate and contribute to resources and guidance for reproducible research in computationally intensive research disciplines.
- Contribute to educational content including presentations for different research roles and topics.
- Run reproducibility trainings including workshops and webinars.
- Plan and coordinate presentations and seminars at institutions or scientific conferences.
- Write scientific blog posts and content for Code Ocean’s website.
The Outreach Scientist will work closely with other Outreach Scientists and report to April Clyburne-Sherin (Director of Scientific Outreach).
Job qualifications:
You should be adaptable, self-motivated, organized individuals who want to advance computational reproducibility in research. You should be willing to travel (~ 25% of time) and able to lead multiple tasks efficiently. The preferred location for the role is in New York. If you live elsewhere, you should be comfortable with a remote work environment.
Specific qualifications include:
Required:
- Graduate-level research experience in a computationally-intensive discipline required.
- Intermediate experience with multiple scientific languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, Julia or other scientific languages required.
- Deep understanding of the principles of computational reproducibility required.
- Experience in academic publishing as an author, peer reviewer, or editor required.
- Excellent written and verbal science communication skills, including public speaking and presentation proficiency.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with researchers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Recommended:
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Experience training scientists.
- PhD preferred but not required.
